PTO Minutes – January 22, 2020

The meeting was called to order at 4:00 p.m. by Rev. Sue.

The minutes from Dec.11, 2019, were reviewed and approved as read.

President’s Report:

Banking needs to move forward with the opening of the Barber PTO Inc. were reviewed. BLT organizational discussion on how to incorporate BLT with the PTO.

Treasurer’s Report:

  • PTO Funds: $1225.56 is current balance

  • Santa’s Shop:  $378.00

  • Popcorn:  $547.00

Committee Reports:

  • Popcorn Sales – Volunteers are needed to sell popcorn. Hopefully we can get an online google document set up for parents and community to volunteer on Thursdays and Fridays from 9-12. We are looking to fill four spots per day. Hoping to have Mrs. Lovell help us with this procedure and maybe help set up a link on our school website.

  • Santa’s Workshop – Students enjoyed this year's Santa Shop. Parents who helped volunteer felt needed and appreciated. The Santa Shop is looking for ideas to improve for the next school year. There was discussion on parent training and maybe moving the shop to a room for better monitoring and less distractions.

Old Business:

  • Valentine’s dance will be held February 13,2020 upon approval by BLT. Hudson Service Learning may provide a DJ for free. Dave’s Market will donate cookies. Water and juice will be provided by PTO. A flyer will be sent home upon approval by BLT and Mrs. Williams asking for volunteers and donations. Margie Rose (Nana) and Tina Adams will be chair the Valentine’s party committee. They will be looking for parents to set up, decorate, pass out food, chaperone, clean up, make decorations, or donate decorations for the dance. They can be reached at Nana 330-842-7313 and Tina Adams 760-362-3575.

  • Bake Sale- Feb. 20, 2020 - Bake sale for Interim Pickup (2:45 - 6:45 p.m.) - April Smith and Bridget Phillips will coordinate. We will be asking for donations for this event.

  • Word Parade - Looking to have this event in March or when BLT votes when to have it. Ms. Swails made a sample of what the word poster would look like. Poster board for students to use in building their costumes was purchased by PTO.

  • Spirit Wear - Mrs. Seibert will pursue involving students in the spirit wear contest. She will have students design different Barber Bear wear in March.

  • Book Fair/Grandparents’ Day - The first week in May upon approval from Mrs. Williams and BLT. April Smith, Wayne and Nana Rose will chair this event. Discussion of classrooms do a 15 minute craft/poem/gift for grandparents, 15 minutes in the bookfair, maybe a song organized by Mrs. Akers? The committee will be looking into maybe providing lunch for the students and their grandparents.

     New Business

  • Fundraiser of selling discount cards for local businesses. The cards would be sold for $10.00 and are good for an entire year. A list of local businesses would be given to the discount card fundraising place and they call all the local businesses and do all the work. We keep $6.00 of every sale.

  • Spirit wear will be looked into by Sue Roseman and Liane Edge so when the final design is picked we can order.

Other Ideas:

In general discussion, we talked about the organization of the PTO and how to get parents involved. Communication through Barber website, Facebook, or other avenues to get parents involved. Having committee meetings later in the night so parents can come.
